Vision Eye Institute rolls out Oculo nationally

1 June 2018

Vision Eye Institute will implement Oculo across its 15 clinics and 9 day surgeries throughout Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. Oculo is the leading clinical communication system for eye care in Australia and New Zealand, used by over 1800 optometrists and 480 ophthalmologists.

Vision Eye Institute is the leading provider of ophthalmology in Australia. Vision Eye Institute’s CEO James Thiedeman said, “We are a patient-focused company, dedicated to clinical excellence. We achieve this by working with leading clinicians and using state-of-the-art equipment, facilities and technologies. We see Oculo as another important tool to delivering the best possible clinical outcomes.”

Vision Eye Institute initially trialled Oculo in Victoria. Clinic Manager Margaret Kelly commented, “Utilising Oculo means we can work even more closely with our referring optometrists, including using the clinical information they send to triage patients better and faster and being able to send reports back to close the clinical loop. Streamlining communications translates to better service and care.”

Oculo’s CEO, Dr Kate Taylor said, “We are delighted to keep expanding our clinical network of Oculo users who are committed to using the best available technologies for patient care. We love the feedback they give us that closer communications around referrals and clinical communications is good both for patients and business building.”

Dr Lewis Levitz, one of Vision Eye Institute’s Melbourne ophthalmologists, said “Oculo will benefit patients by allowing optometrists to quickly generate electronic referrals.  The referral has all the information supplied by the referrer in a concise, easy to read template which allows the doctor to quickly assess urgency.  The patient can then be contacted by the doctor’s rooms to offer an appropriate and timeous consultation.  Administrative processes are streamlined as the referrer’s details, patient’s Medicare number as well as the doctor’s provider number are supplied. This makes registration at the doctor’s rooms quicker and easier for patients. The days of a patient being concerned over a lost or misplaced referral are over.”

About Oculo

Oculo grew out of the Centre for Eye Research Australia and was developed in collaboration with Specsavers, OPSM, and Bupa Optical. Oculo’s aim is to promote the efficiency and quality of clinical communications to support collaboration – and ultimately to help deliver the best possible care to eye patients so that they may enjoy the best possible sight.
