Data security is paramount

World class data transmission and storage security

We know how important patient data security is. Our system is designed so that any data you enter and share on Oculo is only seen by the people intended to see it. We’ve implemented world-best-practice security measures, so you can be confident when using Oculo.

All of Oculo’s Australian health data is stored in Australia. Everything is encrypted in transit and at rest to a standard that exceeds Medicare’s PKIs. As a closed, self-contained system, Oculo does not require a Medicare PKI or NEHTA Secure Message Delivery (SMD) registration.

Data transmission

Restricted Access – When you send patient data to another eye care professional, nobody can see the information without permission. We have recently added a second layer of security, a multi-step validation of patient consent.

Encryption – As patient info moves from place to place, all data entered into Oculo is encrypted during transfer.

Data storage

Secure facilities – Our data storage facilities are protected day and night, providing the best defence against physical break-ins. Hosting services are provided by Amazon Web Service, distributed across a number of data centres in Sydney, Australia, each with electronic surveillance, intrusion detection and 24x7 security guards.

Backups – We make sure that the patient information you enter and share is still there tomorrow. We keep secure and distributed backups of data.

Encryption – Patient data can only be seen and read by the authorised Oculo subscribers involved in specific patient care. The Oculo database is protected using asymmetric encryption, and passwords are salted and hashed.

Accreditations – We comply with the major global security standards, creating an secure platform to improve care quality and service to your patients. This includes compliance with global security standards including ISO 27001, SOC, PCI Data Security Standard, the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) Information Security Manual, and the Singapore Multi-Tier Cloud Security Standard (MTCS SS 584).
